Johnston Police Department may face more
allegations of impropriety Edgefielddaily.com web posted September 29, 2005 JOHNSTON – The troubles with the Johnston Police Department seem to be growing rather than diminishing. The recent suspension of long-time Police Chief Butch Easler by Mayor Dean Campbell with the announcement last Thursday of a SLED investigation on allegations of perjury and violation of a victim's rights by Chief Easler seemed to be the worst thing that could happen to the town. It now seems that was not the case. The Johnston Town Council called a special called meeting Wednesday night to discuss a personnel issue on “potential disciplinary action in the police department.” This action is not related to the case involving Chief Easler we are told. Edgefield Daily.com did not attend the meeting Wednesday night as it was shown to be an executive session only, in which no action may be taken. However, reports we have received point to a very unflattering revelation regarding another of the Johnston Police Department's Officers. The Town of Johnston would not confirm or deny any of the reports. Edgefield Daily.com will withhold the name of the officer and the allegations until they are confirmed by outside authorities or the town. If the reports we have received are credible the town could see yet another officer put on suspension or worse. We will follow up as more information is made available. Developing story...
