AIKEN An 18-year-old Evans teen was killed in the first fatality in Aiken County on Wednesday around 2 pm, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said in a release. Helen Reid, 18, was pronounced dead on the scene after being ejected from a 2004 Jeep Cherokee driven by Austin Beard of North Augusta after he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree on Dixie Clay Road at a high rate of speed.

Beard, and another unnamed passenger, were transported to the Trauma Center in Augusta following the crash. Their conditions was unknown according to the release.

The trio were traveling west on Dixie Clay Rd. at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the road, overturn and then strike a tree.
