Aiken Police Officer Dies after Shooting
web posted January 28, 2012
AIKEN – Aiken Public Safety
Officer Master Cpl
Sandy Rogers, 48, is dead following a shooting incident in Aiken
earlier Saturday morning Chief Charles Barranco said at a 7 pm press
conference. Rogers was a 27 year veteran with the department with
awards including a Distinguished Service Award and another for Life
Saving. Chief Barranco was emotional while giving members of the press
the details of Rogers's service.
Chief Barranco said that Officer Rogers was investigating a call of a
suspicious vehicle and an "altercation ensued" which left Rogers
mortally wounded. The suspect, Joshua Tramine Jones, 26, was arrested
in Batesburg around 11:30 am following a manhunt in nearby Johnston
after an Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputy and a Johnston Police
Officer spotted his car shortly after the shooting.
Jones (left) was arrested without
incident and transported to the Aiken County
Detention Center where he is being charged with murder and possession
of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, Chief Barranco
said.
Richmond County Sheriff's Investigators are also investigating the
murder of Jones' girlfriend, 21-year-old Casey Vise, who was found dead
around 11 am Saturday at her Greens at Washington apartment after her
employer and fellow worker were concerned after she did not show up at
work.
WJBF
News
6 is reporting that, "the family of Cayce Vise has confirmed
that 26-year-old Joshua Tremaine Jones was their daughter's live-in
boyfriend." Other reports indicate that Ms. Vice was pregnant at the
time of the murder.
SLED is leading the investigation into the murder of Officer Rogers.
