Nephew Kills 71-Year-Old Aunt

AIKEN Geraldine Johnson, 71 years old, of Clemson Dr. Aiken SC was pronounced dead at her residence Saturday night. Ms. Jackson was allegedly shot by her nephew, 39-year-old Michael Thompson of North Augusta SC, at approximately 10:30 pm. According to a witness the two were involved in a family quarrel when Mr. Thompson brandished a weapon and fired at Ms. Johnson, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said in a release.

Ms. Johnson is scheduled for autopsy tomorrow morning in Newberry SC.

Thompson was arrested and taken to the Aiken Count y Detention Center where he will be charged with murder.

This investigation is on going.

Editor's note: This report updated due to the victim being identified as Ms. Jackson originally by authorities. When they corrected the error, this report was updated to reflect the new information.
