Aiken County suffers third traffic fatality this year

web posted February 16, 2009
AIKEN - 43 year old, Geneise R. Williams of Perry SC. was pronounced dead at
the scene of a 3 pm Sunday car crash in Wagener. According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Ms. Williams was the seat-belted passenger in a 2005 Nissan Altima, driven by Jennifer Abney of Irmo when it was struck by another vehicle.

Ms. Abney and Ms. Williams were traveling north on South Dixie Road when Ms. Abney failed to yield the right of way while attempting to make a left turn on to Holiness Church Road.

The Nissan was struck in the passenger side by a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 18-year-old Ronnie H. Toole Jr., of Salley SC. Mr. Toole was traveling south on South Dixie Road when the collision took place.

Ms. Abney was transported to MCG shock trauma with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Toole had no life threatening injuries and remained at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and fatality.

This is the third fatal crash in Aiken County this year.
