Bank of America donates $3,000 to Local Red Cross
web posted February 25, 2013
AIKEN – Bank of America presented the
American Red Cross Aiken Area Chapter with a $3,000 grant to fund
comfort kits for victims of disasters. A comfort kit is a bag that
includes items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, a toothbrush and
other basic hygiene items necessary for individuals who have lost their
homes to fires or other disasters. In addition to shelter, financial
assistance and counseling, all disaster victims served by the Red Cross
are offered comfort kits.
“We are thrilled that Bank of America has provided funding to support
our local disaster relief services,” said Lindsay Findley, executive
director, American Red Cross Aiken Area Chapter. “Many of our clients
escape their burning homes without shoes and are covered in smoke. The
last thing they should have to worry about is how they can clean up and
brush their teeth. With Bank of America’s investment in our
organization, the Aiken Area Chapter will be able to provide hundreds
of disaster victims with comfort kits and help alleviate one more
concern.”
Bank of America’s generous donation will support disaster relief
services in Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell and Edgefield Counties
for the remainder of the fiscal year. Since July 1, 2012, the Red Cross
has responded to 59 disasters, providing immediate assistance to 210
adults and children who were temporarily displaced from their
homes.
The grant is part of ongoing investments by the Bank of America
Charitable to address immediate critical needs, such as hunger and
shelter, and longer-term solutions that promote financial wellness
through access to benefits and resources. Nationally the grants
support over 1,000 nonprofits.
The Red Cross is not a government agency and relies on the generosity
of donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations such as
Bank of America. You can help your neighbors recover from
disasters by making a financial contribution to the Red Cross today by
visiting redcross.org or by calling (803) 641-4152. Donations may
also be mailed to the American Red Cross, 1314 Pine Log Road, Aiken, SC
29803.
