Step-Father to be Charged for Murder by Child Abuse

web posted February 25, 2014

WAGENER, SC A 34-year-old Aiken County man is in custody after a 2-year-old toddler was brought into the Trauma Center in Augusta and later died Sunday morning from a severe head injury. Leon Marquis Davis, the child's step-father was arrested at the hospital on outstanding warrants and is now being held for a pending charge of murder by child abuse.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said that an autopsy on Monday showed the child died from "blunt force trauma".

The child died at 10:02 am Sunday, Carlton said. "The child's death is to be ruled a homicide", Carlton said.

Davis remains in custody at the Aiken County Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing, Carlton said in the release.
