Tognum America Contributes $100,000 to Aiken Technical College
Manufacturing and Nuclear Training Facility
web posted March 5, 2013
AIKEN – Tognum America Inc. recently
contributed $100,000 toward the construction of Aiken Technical
College’s Center for Energy and Advanced Manufacturing. The new
building will support the college’s radiation protection technology,
nuclear quality systems, welding and mechatronics programs.
“We are greatly appreciative of Tognum America’s generous $100,000
contribution toward the Center for Energy and Advanced Manufacturing,”
said ATC President Dr. Susan Winsor. “South Carolina is
experiencing tremendous growth in the manufacturing and energy sectors,
and Tognum America has been actively engaged with ATC in developing
workforce solutions in our area. We look forward to continuing to
work together to provide opportunities for our citizens and for our
region.”
Through capital contributions like the one from Tognum America, Aiken
Technical College will be able to build and equip the proposed facility
with state-of-the-art equipment enabling it to provide the highest
quality training to meet industry needs.
“When we moved our production to Aiken County in 2010, ATC was a
significant factor to our success,” said Joerg Klisch, Tognum America
Vice President of North American Operations. “They provided
training space, experienced instructors and recruiting support. ATC is
often chosen by our employees to help them continue their career
growth, which is supported by the Tognum tuition program. We are happy
to support this ATC economic development project which will be very
beneficial to the industrial community in Aiken County.”
Aiken Technical College received a $2 million grant from the Economic
Development Administration in 2012 to build the Center for Energy and
Advanced Manufacturing, with the requirement of securing a $2 million
match from private sources.
The Aiken Technical College Foundation kicked off its Putting Knowledge
to Work capital campaign in September 2012 to seek community and
industry contributions, and the foundation reports that to date more
than $1.6 million has been raised toward its goal.
