web posted March 8, 2013

AIKEN – A single car crash has claimed the life of a Langley, SC, man Wednesday night that was not discovered until 9 hours later on Thursday morning. Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said 23-year-old Danny G. Chalker Jr. of Langley was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:30 am.

The crash is believed to have occurred around 10 pm Wednesday night. Mr. Chalker was driving a late model Honda Accord that was traveling west on Highway 278 when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a telephone pole, went through a chain link fence and then struck a tree.

Mr. Chalker's vehicle traveled through the yards of several residences before coming to a rest. One resident reported hearing a loud noise around 10:00 pm, however; was unable to locate the origin of the sound.

The crash was discovered at approximately 7:17 am Thursday morning. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. Mr. Chalker was not wearing a seatbelt.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol along with the Coroner's Office is investigating fatality. An autopsy is scheduled for today in Newberry SC. Toxicology is pending.
