Allendale woman killed in Sunday crash
web
posted June 22, 2009
AIKEN – A 54-year-old Allendale woman was
killed in a single car crash in Aiken County Sunday evening according
to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton. Vicki Gregory Welch, of Allendale,
was pronounced dead on the scene after being ejected from the Chevy
S-10 Blazer in the crash on Colbert Bridge Road.
Aiken County Corner Carlton said Ms. Welch was traveling east on
Colbert Bridge Road near Aiken when she left the roadway, struck a
culvert,
overturned several times and was ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle
then caught fire.
The crash took place around 8:20 pm, Coroner Carlton said.
Ms. Welch was the only occupant in the SUV at the time of the crash and
was not wearing a seat belt. She is reported to have died
from multiple body trauma.
The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol
and the Aiken County Coroner's Office. This is the 19th fatal crash in
Aiken County this year.
