  Martial Arts Competitor dies from injuries in competition web posted June 29, 2010 AIKEN – Michael Kirkham, 30, of Gaston SC, was pronounced dead on Monday morning at Aiken Regional Medical Center in Aiken. Mr. Kirkham was a participant in the Professional Mixed Martial Arts Competition at the USCA Convocation Center on Saturday June 26, 2010. During the 1st round of his professional debut, Mr. Kirkham received several blows to the head, which caused the referee to stop the bout. Mr. Markham became unconscious was transported to the hospital where he never regained consciousness. He was pronounced dead at 8:25 Monday morning, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said. The cause of death is believed to be due to a subarachnoid hemorrhage of the brain , according to Carlton. An autopsy is scheduled in Newberry today. © Copyright 2010
