web posted August 4, 2014

AIKEN A North, South Carolina man was killed in a single car crash on Interstate 20 around 6 am Saturday morning, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said. Al Miller, 34, of North, was pronounced dead on the scene near mile marker 28 after losing control of his 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, causing it to flip several times. Miller was ejected from the SUV, Carlton said.

Miller's passenger, 34-year-old Tara Chase, of Columbia, was transported to GRU (MCG) medical center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Carlton said Miller and Chase were westbound on I-20 when Miller lost control of the vehicle. while they were in route to Atlanta. "Excessive speed and possibly drugs and alcohol may be contributing factors," Carlton said in a release.

Miller was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Chase was restrained.

The fatality is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office. Toxicology results are pending.
