Wagner man 24th to die on Aiken County roads this year
web
posted September 27, 2008
AIKEN – A 59-year-old Wagner man became
Aiken County’s 24th to die as a result of a crash in the county this
year. According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Donnie Ray Swartz
of Wagner was driving a Jennings Sanitation truck westbound on highway
278 when he lost control of the truck on a narrow bridge on Friday
afternoon around 3:15.
The truck struck the guardrails on both sides of the bridge before
overturning and partially ejecting Mr. Swartz, who was not wearing a
seatbelt. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Carlton who
said Swartz suffered “multiple body trauma.”
Two coworkers in the truck with Mr. Swartz were also injuries but the
injuries were not serious, Carlton said.
The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
It was unknown what caused Mr. Swartz to lose control of the vehicle.
