“Friend” charged in fatal stabbing death

web posted November 23, 2009
AIKEN – One man is dead and his friend is in custody after a day of drinking and “roughhousing” ended in tragedy Saturday. Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Dancer Wayne Richter, 20, was transported to MCG from the front yard of a home on Partridge Bend Rd. near New Ellenton around 9 pm after being stabbed several times. He was pronounced dead at 9:59 pm shortly after arriving.

Coroner Carlton said an autopsy conducted Sunday concluded Mr. Richter died from multiple stab wounds, however; the fatal wounds were to his heart and lung.

Allen Christopher Tufano, 35, was arrested and is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

In a release Sunday morning Coroner Carlton said, “According to witnesses the pair had been drinking, scuffling, and roughhousing all day. At approximately 9 pm the roughhousing turned deadly when Mr. Tufano acquired a knife and stabbed his friend.”

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office is investigating the crime.

This marks the 14th homicide in Aiken County this year.
