LIFE DOWN SOUTH-- You’ll find this outhouse, vestige of the past, on a Chesterfield County farm. A most reliable place of meditation, the outhouse never leaks; needs no plumber. Winds drift between boards; needs no exhaust fan. Bleached by beams of sunlight, it needs neither Lysol nor Clorox. In fact, it gives folks a breath of fresh air courtesy of a walk outside. For real … a trot in winter … a languid promenade, perchance, during the rise of Sirius.

Edgefield County Council Meeting:  Winning Awards and Shedding Tears, February 2, 2016

COUNTY- Tuesday evening the Edgefield County Council met for their regularly scheduled February meeting.  Shortly after being called to order, the Council heard an update on the state of the County’s economic development.  The update was given by Will Williams, Economic Development Partnership CEO.  Mr. Williams stated there have been businesses to locate in Edgefield County that don’t get a lot of attention in the media because these are small businesses that fall below the threshold numbers for a press release.  Council members thanked Mr. Williams for his efforts to help attract industry to Edgefield County.

House Plans to Furlough Additional Week in February

STATE-- House Speaker Jay Lucas announced yesterday that the House plans to furlough an additional week over February 15th, 2016.  Previously scheduled weeks include March 28th and April 4th, the two weeks following budget deliberations on the House floor.

STHS Boys Basketball Claims Victory Over Crescent High School

SPORTS-- The Strom Thurmond Boys Basketball team hosted the Crescent Tigers, from Iva, Sc on February 2. With the ball in their court, the Rebels claimed victory against the Tigers with a score of 92-52.

STATE of the COUNTY

COUNTY- Will Williams, President and CEO of the Economic Development Partnership gave a State of the County during the County Council Meeting held Tuesday evening. As part of Mr. Williams update of what has been going on in the county, he stated first off that council had been good stewards with tax payer dollars and have also maintained a very strong business friendly environment.

STCTC’s Top Students Recognized

JOHNSTON-- Strom Thurmond Career and Technology Center’s (STCTC) staff choose the top students for the second nine weeks. “I am honored. I really like using AutoCad and designing two and three dimensional figures in Mechanical Design,” said Aja Anderson, Mechanical Design student. Each nine weeks the teachers at STCTC select the student who is the most focused on developing the skills and attitudes needed in today’s workforce.
