Three Juveniles Lost on FATS Trails Thursday Night

MERRIWETHER – Three juveniles were able to call 911 to report being lost on the FATS trails Thursday night shortly before 9 pm. That brought Sheriff's Deputies, the Bloodhound Team and the Merriwether Fire Department to the scene. It was reported the three were two 13-year-olds and a 10-year-old.

Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery Arrest Made

MERRIWETHER – An arrest has been made in the home invasion that took place on Friday morning, July 24. The investigator working the case has been following up with the victim on a daily basis this whole past week. Michael Anthony Bargeron, 17, was taken into custody late Tuesday afternoon without incident and remains behind bars at the Edgefield County Detention Center. A second suspect has not been arrested at this time.

Tip of Man With Gun at Club 21 Leads to Narcotics Arrest

JOHNSTON – While Johnston Police were getting ready to do a "walk through" at Club 21 they were tipped that a man had a gun on him inside the bar. The tip the man's name was Sam and that he had just gotten out of jail for drugs and was wearing red shorts. The man was identified as Samuel Lee Smith, 26, and as the club closed at 1 am they confronted Smith outside.

Body recovered in Savannah River Identified

NORTH AUGUSTA – The body of a white female discovered in the Savannah River Tuesday morning has been identified as 61 year old, Suzanne E. Dyke of North Augusta SC. Ms. Dyke's body was discovered near a boat dock this morning at approximately 8:00 am, near the Hammonds Ferry Subdivision in North Augusta, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said in a late afternoon release Tuesday.

Someone at church gave him her cell phone number on July 23 and he wasted no time sending her what can only be described as sick and twisted messages about being "sexually frustrated" and that he likes girls between the ages of 7 to 12 years of age.

Murder Victim's House Targeted for Theft again

TRENTON – A family member of Johnny Hydrick, who was murdered in his house on Windy Ridge Road last October, reported on Sunday that he was at the home doing yard work and found that over $5,000 in various items were taken from the yard. This makes the second time someone had entered the property to steal property.

TRENTON – A motorist called 911 to report a reckless driver on Highway 25 at Bettis Academy Road around 7 pm Saturday saying the driver was all over the road and appeared to be drunk. The motorist was following behind the vehicle, a black Nissan Sentra 4-door. The caller would feed dispatch information as a deputy tried to get in position to stop the driver.

Saluda County Sheriff's Office Seeks Attempted Murder Suspect; Stolen Car

SALUDA – According to the Saluda County Sheriff's Office they were called to the 1500 block of Hollywood School Road at 8:16 Sunday morning and found Christopher Shane Miller, 39, had been assaulted and stabbed several times by an unknown suspect who then fled the scene in Miller's black 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Miller was flown from the scene to Palmetto Health Richland and at this time is in stable condition.

According to The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office, the powered parachute was taking off when a gust of wind hit sending the aircraft into the trees around 7:30 pm. MERRIWETHER – The investigation of the shooting at a home located at 2551 West Martintown Road has completely shifted gears and now appears to be a drug deal gone bad. The shooting, which took place around 2:45 am Friday, July 17, was not over a car, but drugs. The number of rounds fired could also increase from the reported 33. "That's just the shell casings we could find in the dark," the investigator in charge of the case said Wednesday.

Passenger Arrested after others Refused to "Take the Fall"

JOHNSTON – A traffic stop for a taillight out landed one in jail because the son of the car's owner wasn't going to take "the fall" for drugs being in the car. GREENVILLE – One person has been referred to their health care provider for consultation after being exposed to rabies in the Five Forks area of Greenville County by a raccoon that tested positive for the disease, the Department of Health and Environmental Control reported Friday. The exposure occurred on July 14, 2015. The raccoon was a baby being raised in captivity. Its mother had been killed.

Disturbance Call Results in Drugs and Weapon Charges

MERRIWETHER – A Briggs Haven Road man called the Sheriff's Office due to his grandson causing a disturbance at the home and told dispatchers there was a warrant for his arrest. Before deputies could arrive he left the scene and was last seen walking on Briggs Road. When they found him walking he was identified as Dalton Caleb Worthy, 18, and was told to show his hands, which found he was carrying a knife in one of them.

I visited it July 1, a steamy day threatening rain. The track’s ghostly presence sent me way back to the Sundays when Dad and I followed King Richard on the radio.

ATLANTA – A sculpture in Georgia larger than a football field – depicting Civil War luminaries Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson – has become the latest target in the push to purge the South of signs of the Confederacy. The Atlanta chapter of the NAACP called Monday for the elimination of all symbols of the Confederacy from Stone Mountain Park, whose marquee attraction is the 90-foot-high, 190-foot-wide sculpture carved deep into the mountain.

Suspicious Vehicle Leads to Drug Charges

COUNTY LINE – Edgefield County Dispatchers kept receiving calls of a suspicious vehicle parked across from a home on the 800 block of Coronet Drive with no one around. Then around 9:40 pm Monday deputies were called back and found Marquis Rashad Barley,19, working on the car along with Joshua Lovett, 25, of Saluda. After finding five whitish-brown rocks and a blue pill believed to be oxycodone all packaged for sale Barley claimed "everything" in the car belonged to him and he was taken into custody.

TRENTON – A Trenton man reported receiving an alert  over his phone after filling out an application for "Mr. Pawn" which had asked for his personal information as part of the application process. When he checked he found that there were at least seven credit cards opened and a car purchased using his information since this weekend.

RELIGION – I read this week about some good crime solving work! Detectives in Oklahoma were able to solve a robbery by following a trail of grease spills. Police say Steven McCarthey and William Bitsche stole nearly $4,000 worth of property from a neighbor’s home in Chickasha, Okla., on May 16. When the sun rose, Matthew Kennedy, another neighbor, helped police solve the case when he spotted a grease trail from the burglarized home to the door of a neighboring property.

MERRIWETHER – A deputy on patrol spotted the blue Xterra that was suspected to have been used in a burglary on Saturday and waited on it to leave the parking lot of Sportsman's Corner around 11 pm Sunday and conducted a traffic stop for expired tags. The driver, Amanda Marie Yarolem, 30, was found to be driving under suspension and was taken into custody.

Body Found in Burning Car

EUREKA – A vehicle fire in Aiken County SC has yielded the discovery of a body. A forest fire was reported at approximately 10:30 am Sunday by several residents of Lake Shore Dr. in Aiken County. Eureka Fire Department responded to the blaze and discovered a burning vehicle in the woods. After closer inspection of the vehicle it was determined that there was a body in the vehicle, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said in a release.

Man Airlifted from Single Vehicle Crash

EDGEFIELD – A single vehicle crash left the driver injured and being airlifted to the Trauma Center in Augusta Friday morning around 10:30 am. The driver lost control of his car and struck a power pole on Highway 25 just past Moores Drive causing the pole to snap leaving live power lines down and on the car. The crash had both lanes of Highway 25 blocked during the rescue.

Biker Injured in Motorcycle Crash

MERRIWETHER – The rider of a 2009 Triumph 675 was injured after losing control of his motorcycle and taking a spill at the intersection of Woodlawn and Martintown Roads Friday afternoon. EMS arrived within minutes and began treating the injured rider. A second rider that was with him stood the motorcycle up to cheek on damages for the rider.
