EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield man is behind
bars and facing a felony charge after breaking into a Walnut Street
woman's home and attacking her Thursday morning. 911 dispatchers got
the call at 11:42 am after the man had left the scene and a nearby
Edgefield Police Officer spotted the man riding a bicycle on Brooks
Street and took him into investigative custody and returned him to the
scene.

– A three vehicle
crash sent
two people to area hospitals Thursday morning and blocked two
northbound lanes of Highway 25 around 8 am. The collision took place as

JOHNSTON – A number of counterfeit $20
bills have turned up in Johnston recently, but the counterfeiters are
using actual bills to print the fake bills. This way when the bills are
marked with a special pen the bills show up as real. However, they are
actually $5 bills that have been "washed out" and then reprinted as $20
bills. Some similar bills have turned up around the CSRA reprinted as
$100 bills.

Sheriff's Office was called to a Sweetwater Court home Wednesday
morning after a family member was alerted by a neighbor that the front
door to the home have been kicked in. Deputies arrived and cleared the
home and found no one inside. The owner is currently hospitalized but
deputies met with a nearby family member at the scene.

– Gas prices are falling,
although
faster in some areas of the county than others. According to Bill
Hart's observations, prices vary as much as 22 cents per gallon
depending on where you buy your gas. That can equate to around $4 a
fill-up or more. The lowest reported gas prices were at Dodge's and
Kent's Korner in Edgefield at $2.97 a gallon. In Merriwether, residents
are paying about ten cents more for a gallon of gas than the rest of
the county.

thankful of the job local firefighters did to save what they could of
their Horns Creek West home, including being able to rescue family
pictures kept in a plastic container upstairs. After firefighters
learned many of the photos also contained those of a deceased child
they made sure to retrieve them from the burning house.

Merriwether Middle School decided to run off rather than attend
classes, leading to Sheriff's Deputies, Investigators, an off duty
deputy, school officials and volunteers spending the next 2
hours searching for the boy. Shortly after the student ran off the
first time a teacher was able to catch him, but he reportedly took off
running into a wooded area across the street from the school.

EDGEFIELD – An early morning fire
destroyed a Horns Creek West home that brought six of the county's
seven fire
departments racing to the scene. The initial call came in reporting
that the home at 110 Horns Creek West was on fire just before 6 am.
Shortly thereafter Edgefield firefighters called for mutual aid to help
battle the blaze.

JOHNSTON – A 30-year-old Johnston man was
flown to the MCG Trauma Center late Saturday night after someone
reported a suspicious man on a 4-wheeler bleeding heavily from his
mouth or face. A Sheriff's Deputy began searching Mile Bridge Way, the
last place the man was spotted, and was "flagged down" by the bleeding
man on Old Plank Road. The deputy immediately called for EMS to respond
to the scene.

– A Saluda man injured
in a
single vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Highway 378 has died.
Edgefield County Coroner Thurmond Burnett said Wedeman Anthony Turner,
42, of Shaw Road, Saluda, was pronounced dead at MCG at 10:12 am

Schools Join United Way of Edgefield County

COUNTY – The United Way of Edgefield
County and the public schools in the Edgefield County School District
are joining forces to benefit all. The local United Way is offering a
$500 incentive grant to the Edgefield County School that raises the

EUREKA – A 48 year old Kileen TX soldier
was pronounced dead on arrival at Aiken Regional Medical Center after
being struck by a Ford F-350 pick up truck on Highway 19 north near
Eureka SC. The collision happened around 8:09 pm on Friday. According
to witness' SFC Maurice J. Collier, who is stationed at Ft. Hood TX was
attending a motorcycle rally at 2613 Edgefield Highway and was
apparently directing traffic and was standing near the entrance to that
property when he was struck by the truck.

court officials got a bit of a scare Friday around 2 pm when they were
forced to evacuate the Courthouse due to a fire alarm. All workers were

NORTHSIDE – The driver of a truck was
trapped inside after losing control and rolling the vehicle before
landing upright. Northside Firefighters and EMS worked together to free
the man from the wreckage for about half an hour. Sheriff's Deputies
and firefighters shut down all traffic on Highways 378 and 25 at the
intersection to use it as a landing zone for the helicopter.

this year on both the local and state level. As of August 31, the
preliminary death toll on South Carolina’s highways for 2011 stands at
532 with 70 deaths occurring in the month of August. In Edgefield
County there have been a total of 7 fatalities on local roadways, up
from 5 deaths in all of 2010, and ties for the deadliest year with
2008, which also saw 7 deaths.

TRENTON – An Edgefield man called the
Edgefield County Sheriff's Office to report a car being stolen from his
auto repair company in Trenton on Wednesday morning. The 1991 Ford
Escort station wagon was used to retrieve parts during the course of
business. It was discovered missing around 5:30 am. The owner gave
deputies the name of a suspect who he said was involved in a crash
nearby and left the scene, possibly using the stolen car to escape.

COLUMN – The media has never let anyone
forget about Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) yelling out "You lie!" at Obama's
State of the Union address. It turns out Wilson was right and the "main
stream media" tries its dead best to make sure no one remembers that.
Now we have Obama touting a "jobs bill" that is filled with new taxes
and new spending ranting 18 times during the speech to "pass this bill"

was arrested after refusing to stop for an Edgefield Police officer
Sunday afternoon after a short car chase. Ryan Colby "Mook" Morgan was

called 911 after he became lost after walking on public lands around
Lick Fork Lake Friday afternoon for hours. Deputies responded to the
area in an effort to locate the man's truck that was left on a Forestry
Road somewhere off of Prescott Road. The call came in around 5 pm with
the man stating he was diabetic and had been walking for around 3 hours.

TRENTON – Three men have been arrested
after night hunting in a rural area near Trenton Wednesday. A Rainsford
Road woman reported the men after hearing them fire 10 to 15 shots from
a pickup truck in front of her home with the headlights out around 10
pm. The truck was then seen heading towards Vann Road. A deputy
responding to the call spotted a vehicle matching the description,
which "accelerated at a high rate of speed" as the deputy turned around
and he lost sight of the truck.

issues surrounding their son, who is permanently disabled and under the
Homebound Education program. Mrs. Bradhurst presented the board with a

former linebacker for the Rebels, now safety for the Navy Midshipmen

Sadness spread as news of the passing on Sunday of much beloved Sandra
Friar began reaching the county. Sandra was a very special lady and
served the Edgefield County School District as Information Officer with
28 years of service. In addition she was Director of the District's
AmeriCorp program and very involved with the teachers, administrators,
and students throughout the school district and it showed in her work
over the years. "She'll be impossible to replace," School Board

County Council
has a new Clerk as of Tuesday night. After going into executive session
for the interviews around 4:30, they emerged just before 6 pm and voted
to hire Jennifer Gilley for the position. She is currently working in
the Tax Assessors Office as an appraiser. "I'm very excited to be given
this opportunity," Ms. Gilley said. "I am looking forward to working
with the council and the Administration."

Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office after arriving at storage building on
his property and found approximately 100 electric motors missing from
three rooms in the building over to weekend. It is believed the motors

recovered a golf cart stolen over the weekend not far from the Columbia
Road home where it was taken along with a 4-wheeler. Investigators were
informed by the owner that the trailer that was reported stolen was

EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield man on vacation
with his family said he received two phone calls asking if his golf
cart was for sale, which he told the men no. The next day a neighbor
called and said his golf cart was missing along with other items. He
drove back from vacation after the call on Sunday and notified the
Sheriff's Office to report the crime at the Columbia Road home.

EDGEFIELD
– The driver of a
large delivery
truck lost control while driving northbound on Highway 25 just outside
of Edgefield and crashed into several trees, uprooting some. The truck
came to rest on its side with the cargo box completely destroyed and
the cargo of laundry scattered around the scene. A driver that was
following the truck stopped and helped the injured driver out of the
overturned truck through the passenger door due to the smell of leaking
fuel.

SPORTS – Strom Thurmond and Columbia
continued to win in dominant fashion. The Rebels flex their
muscles on both sides of the ball in the shutout win over Saluda,
showing why they are deserving of the high rankings in the state
polls.Keenan shut out their second opponent in as many games.Gilbert,
Batesburg and Eau Claire still haven’t found the win
column.The Panthers were down 35-14 to Mid Carolina and fought
back to make a game of it before losing by 7. The Indians jumped
out to a 7-0 lead but found themselves down 35-7 at half against White
Knoll. Eau Claire wasn’t in the game after the boot met the
leather following the coin toss as Flora led 35-0 by the end of the 1st
quarter.

housed the former Wade's Southern Suppers on Walker Road called the
Sheriff's Office Sunday afternoon reporting that someone was attempting
to steal the HVAC unit from the building. The man told dispatchers that
he believed the people trying to steal the unit was scared off from the
noise of his 4-wheeler coming towards the building.

half last week against Lucy Laney, the Strom Thurmond Rebels traveled
to Saluda with something to prove, and they did just that. The Rebels
unleashed a flurry of offensive firepower and a hefty dose of lights
out Blue Steel defense in their 35-0 win over rival Saluda, with 21
points coming in the second half. The Blue Steel defense only
allowed the potent Saluda offense five first downs and 82 total yards

has released the two new maps under consideration drawing the new
county council district lines. Both new proposals make remarkable
changes over the first presented to county council last week with the
exception of Merriwether District 5. In both maps, the Town of
Edgefield is cut into half into two different council districts. Copies
of the maps are included and can be zoomed to street level.

EDGEFIELD – An Edgefield man has been
arrested after allegedly fighting with a man at a barbershop and then
putting a pistol to the man's head and threatening to kill him Thursday
evening. Several witnesses fled the scene when the suspect pulled the
gun and "racked" a round before making the threat. Kordell Holmes, 22,
of W. A. Reel Drive, Edgefield, fled the scene in a white 2011 Dodge
Charger but was located by police a short distance away and was
taken into custody.

A "fender bender" at worst and a "scratch and dent" at best. When a
Edgefield County Deputy arrived on the scene of the parking lot crash
in the U-Ride on Augusta Road around 2:30 Thursday he
reported both vehicles suffering major damage and called for Highway

morning along with a flat screen television and a check from her

patrol check found an incomplete crime scene Tuesday night around 11:30
