Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department gets their man

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted May 10, 2005

The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department has been able to arrest two of its long sought burglars. Kenneth Jerome Youmans, 40, was arrested on long held warrants for burglary Wednesday, May 4th.

Investigator Randy Doran said Youmans has other warrants pending. In addition to Youmans Investigator Doran said Edgefield County is also holding warrants for accomplices in local burglaries. Presently Aiken County is holding the rest of those responsible for crimes they committed with Youmans in Edgefield County; they include Mary Mello, Melinda Weeks, and Donald Gene Cooks. Investigator Doran said Aiken County has far more warrants on the group who police say were prolific in assorted thefts ranging from homes to businesses.

In addition to Youmans arrest Edgefield County was able to take custody of another burglary suspect, John William Ferrer Jr., 43 who was wanted for a burglary to a home on Longleaf Drive in Trenton in August 7, 2003. In that crime Investigator Doran said Ferrer is wanted for the theft of a television and VCR which were recovered from a pawn show in Augusta Ga.

Doran said they knew where Ferrer was for a while, “He was doing an 18 month stint in Georgia,” Doran said and that once he completed that sentence Edgefield picked him up when he was being released.  “We will do the same with the rest of those related to the Youmans’ arrest,” Investigator Doran said referring to Mary Mello, Melinda Weeks, and Donald Gene Cooks.
