Burglary suspect now wanted on vehicular homicide charge

web posted March 12, 2010
AUGUSTA – A man wanted on first degree burglary charges in Edgefield County is now wanted on a charge of first degree vehicular homicide stemming from a car chase in Richmond County on February 11 when James Brantley fled officers trying to make a traffic stop. Brantley disregarded a red light at the intersection of Wrighstboro Road at Heard Ave and struck another vehicle injuring the driver and his parents. Glenn Beard, 86, sustained broken ribs, contusions on his lungs, and blood in his chest cavity and died on Saturday.

Brantley is wanted in Edgefield County in connection to two burglaries in the Merriwether area in which he is accused of making off with over a dozen guns, jewelry, and electronics totaling over $13,000 in value.

Brantley is described as a white male standing 5’ 11” and weighing 180 pounds. He has short brown hair, tattoos on both sides of his neck and a teardrop tattoo under his left eye.

Anyone with information on James Brantley’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 803-637-5337 or 803-278-1625 or your local law enforcement office. You can remain anonymous while providing information.
