 Car-jacker identified by authorities web posted June 14, 2007  AUGUSTA – The
Richmond County Sheriff’s Office released information stating they have
identified the suspect in the carjacking
of an Edgefield woman last Thursday. Lucia Bradham, of Edgefield,
was at the Top Notch Car Wash on 2841 Washington Rd, Augusta, when she
was approached by a white man that engaged her in a conversation.
Shortly afterwards he forced his way into Ms. Bradham’s GMC Yukon and
fled the scene. Police say video surveillance tapes later showed 31
year-old Gary Lee Murphy, of Wagner, using Ms. Bradham’s charge card to
make purchases at the Dillard’s store on Wrightsboro Road.Authorities say he then changed clothes and convinced another woman, identified as Dominique Chargois, to give him a ride to the nearby Kroger store where he demanded the car and Ms. Chargois’ personal belongings after arriving at the location. He fled the scene with Ms. Chargois’ black 2004 Ford Mustang with a GA license plate of AVE 7688. Murphy is a registered sex offender in South Carolina and has a last known address of 2965 Wagener Rd, Aiken. He is described as a white male, 6' 3" tall and weighing 170 -180 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and may be wearing a mustache and goatee. He was convicted of indecent exposure to a female victim on September 18, 1997. He registered as a sex offender, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), on March 20, 2003.
