New Lung STAT Clinic Helps Patients Receive Treatment Faster

web posted November 10, 2012

AUGUSTA – Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women, claiming more than one million lives each year.  However, the new Lung STAT Clinic at Doctors Hospital can help save more local lives by delivering faster treatment after diagnosis.

“Time is of the essence when it comes to the initial work-up, diagnosis and subsequent treatment of lung cancer. This clinic ensures that no time is wasted and that we get our patients into a personalized treatment plan as quickly as possible,” says Lance Danko, Director of Oncology Services at Doctors Hospital.

The Lung STAT Clinic at Doctors Hospital pledges to get patients in STAT, to see a top specialist within two business days of referral, so that rapid treatment planning can begin.

“We are the leader in the region for treatment of lung cancer.  Our advanced technology not only helps to discover suspicious spots on the lung, but now we can be as efficient and effective as medically possible with our treatment,” says Dr. Philip Catalano, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Doctors Hospital.

Early diagnosis screenings offered at Doctors Hospital:

CT- Lung Screening -

This screening can reduce mortality from lung cancer relative to screening with chest x-ray (CXR) by 20 percent.  The low cost of $265, no insurance required, is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
