  Belvedere gunman in custody Monday afternoon web posted December 11, 2007 BELVEDERE – An alleged gunman was taken into custody by Aiken County Sheriff’s Deputies Monday afternoon without incident after reportedly stepping out on his Rosemary Street home and firing several shots with a rifle from the front porch of his Belvedere home. One eyewitness told EdgefieldDaily.com that they did not hear any shots but made the first call of the incident to 911. “At first I hung up,” the witness said, “and then they called me back”. Other residents reported between eight and ten shots being fired during the episode, though that was not confirmed at the time of this report. The neighbor, who said she did not offer a statement to police, said the subject in the matter was well known for "acting out" in a similar fashion in the past, though never involving weapons in previous incidents. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and is currently being evaluated for metal health issues. His identity is not being released at this time. ©
