Mother, son escape injury in morning crash

web posted February 27, 2008
BETTIS ACADEMY – A woman and her son traveling north on Highway 25 around 10 am Tuesday morning found themselves and their Ford Expedition in a ravine after a red Ford Astro van exited out of a nearby nursery in front of the woman causing her to lose control of the SUV on the rain slick highway. The driver of the van stopped and then fled the scene without offering aid.

The SUV careened off the northbound lane spinning as it traveled down an embankment and then continuing 30 yards down to the edge of a steep ravine coming to rest against a small tree. Neither the woman nor her son was injured. Deputies began searching the area for the red minivan said to have been driven by a Hispanic male.

The driver of the van was later located in Saluda and found to be driving without a drivers license and was ticketed.

A crash on Highway 25 just north of Edgefield was also being worked by deputies during the same time period. Reports from the scene indicated one person might have suffered minor injuries. No other information was available.
