March for the Park met with sunny skies and warm temps

web posted April 23, 2007

BETTIS ACADEMY – The March for the Park was held Saturday at Bettis Park under clear shies and warm temperatures. Attendees began gathering by 9 am to get a good spot to view the parade that began at 11. The County Line Fire Department was also on hand with their brand new Service Truck the department just purchased proudly in the parade.

Several local dignitaries were on hand including state Representative Bill Clyburn, School Superintendent Sharon Keesely, County Councilman Willie Bright, Johnston Mayor Willie Campbell, and others.

After the parade the crowds were entertained by live bands and activities for the children as vendors sold their wares.

The County Line Fire Department sold hot dogs and sausage dogs in an effort to raise funds for a new First Responder vehicle. Raffle tickets are also on sale to raise funds with the drawing to be held July 4; you do not need to be present to win the grand prize of $200 and a second prize of $100. To purchase tickets please call the County Line Fire Department at 663-4898.

The festivities continued throughout the day. Edgefield County School Board Chairwoman Sallie Cooks said, “I think this is a great opportunity for us all to come together. That’s what it’s all about.”
