Burglary Suspect Confronted by Victim, Arrested Within Hours of Crime

web posted May 6, 2014

BETTIS ACADEMY A Bettis Academy man called the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office a Trenton man breaking into a home on Bettis Academy Extension Sunday evening. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Ricky Lee Hill, was found to be hiding behind a door in the mother's bedroom, and when confronted, "pushed" the woman's son out of the way and fled the scene on foot.

Deputies arrived on the scene just before 5:30 pm Sunday and called for an investigator to respond due to the circumstances involved.

The victim's son was able to identify the suspect by name when interviewed by authorities. The victim's son reported that after Hill fled the scene, he noticed a "money jar" in his mother's bedroom had been emptied and was left on her bed, an incident report states.

A file, believed to be used to pry open a door at the home, was recovered as evidence. The woman is currently hospitalized.

Hill was located later at a home on Casalina Drive and taken into custody without incident. He was booked on charges of burglary in the second degree. It is unknown if additional charges will be filed. The case remains under investigation.
