“Freeze Pop” leads to arrest of suspected thief
web
posted June 30, 2009
BETTIS ACADEMY – An insurance saleswoman
called
the Sheriff’s Office to report money stolen out of her car while at a
home on Mt. Zion Road late Friday afternoon. The woman told deputies
that while she was inside the home discussing insurance with the owner
a teen walked in, went to the kitchen, and walked back out with a blue
“freeze pop” from the freezer. When she went to leave she discovered
$159 missing from inside her car and an unopened “blue freeze pop”
lying on the passenger seat of her car.
The teen, the homeowner said, was her nephew.
Deputies went to locate the teen at his home and found him and another
man walking on Sandy Springs Road. After speaking with the two Alan
Michael Bargeron, 17, was found to have $59 in his pockets along with a
quantity of what is believed to be marijuana.
When asked if he had been at the home on Mt. Zion Road Bargeron
admitted to being there and getting the freeze pop out of the freezer.
He claimed the money was his and that “some dude” in a silver car rode
up and gave him the marijuana.
Bargeron was arrested and transported to the Edgefield County Detention
Center and charged with simple larceny and simple possession of
marijuana. He has since been released. No trial date was available.
Both charges are misdemeanors.
