Suspected drunk driver responsible for hitting custom light pole

web posted August 29, 2006

BETTIS ACADEMY – A Bettis Academy woman called the Sheriff’s Office to report a hit and run with property damage to a light pole Saturday morning at her home on the 30 block of Carrie Lane. The passenger of the car that hit the light pole exited the vehicle before the driver drove away, and waited with the homeowner for the Deputy to arrive.

The woman told the deputy, according to police reports, that around 10 a.m. a dark colored Honda Civic pulled into her driveway and as the car was backing up it ran over a decorative light pole, valued at $250. She attempted to stop the driver in order to make a report. Before the car drove away, the passenger got out of the car, and then the driver continued on his way unabated. The passenger provided the deputy with the name of the driver.

The driver was said to be “extremely intoxicated” by the passenger, the report indicated.

Deputies tried to locate the driver at his Community Road home, but were unsuccessful. A warrant is being obtained for his arrest for a third offense of driving under suspension and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
