    Basic Glass Fusing & Slumping Class – two day class designed to give you the knowledge to start you on your way in the exciting art of glass fusing.  $150.00. Class times Saturday 10 – 5; Sunday 11 to 3 and Monday 10 to 5; Tuesday 10-2. Next classes start March 29 & 30; April 12 & 13; April 26 & 27; May 10 & 11.

**March 17 until April 4 – Earn your GED at Women in Unity, 323 Glover Street,  Edgefield. Adults who want to improve their basic skills in reading, writing and/or math work with a knowledgeable and supportive classroom teacher to target individual goals which can include job readiness skills and preparation for the general educational development exam. **April 5-6 – Lifeways of the Cherokee Indians & Colonial Settlers, Ninety Six National Historic Site, 1103 Hwy 248, Ninety Six, SC. 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM Saturday; 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM Sunday.  All programs FREE to the public.

**April 16 – Week of the Young Child, sponsored by the Edgefield County Library, Edgefield County First Steps, & Region 2 Discovery center.  10:00 AM, at the Edgefield Library, puppet show, crafts, books, fun for all. **April 18-19 – March for Parks Earth Day Expo – Bettis Academy Campus, Trenton, SC.  Sponsored by the National Parks Conservation Association to save endangered parks and historic sites.  Includes a Friday night fish fry(5:30 PM until 8:00 PM) and Saturday activities(9:00AM) including an early morning walk(10:00 AM), rides, concessions, entertainment and a silent auction.  Call Willa Lanham @803-649-7709 for more information.

**April 23 – Upper Savannah Job Fair, 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM, Greenwood Mall, Greenwood, SC.  Set up and registration for employers will be from 9 until 9:30 AM.  Lunch for registered employers (up to three people) is included. The Upper Savannah Workforce System and Greenwood Mall are sponsoring a Job Fair on Wednesday, April 23, 2008.  The Job Fair will be publicized heavily in Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Newberry and Saluda counties.  This is a semi-annual event that draws more than a thousand job seekers.

Set up and registration for employers will be from 9 until 9:30 am.  Lunch for registered employers (up to three people) is included.  A skirted table and chairs will be provided (electricity to tables is not provided).  Participation in the Job Fair is limited to employers that are hiring or expect to hire employees within the next 4 months.  There is no charge to participate.  However, available space is limited so please return the registration form as soon as possible.

**April 24 – Downtown Shoparound, Edgefield, SC – “Spring Fever in Edgefield” – artists on the sidewalks and in participating shops; 4:00 until 8:00 PM.

**April 26 – Paws in the Park – a fun day in the park at Johnston Elementary School’s Mims Park.  Sponsored by All God’s Creatures Pet Rescue. 11:00 AM Rain or Shine

**April 28 – Better Business Bureau – 1st Annual Integrity Golf Classic – West Lake Country Club, Augusta, Ga. Entry Deadline is April 11 – Registration begins at 11:30 AM – shotgun start 1:00 PM.  We are looking for sponsors, players and raffle items.  For more information contact Kelvin Collins at 706-210-7617.


**May 3 – 25th Annual Peach Blossom Festival, sponsored by the Johnston Development Board. Friday night street dance, all day Saturday activities and a grand finale Saturday night dance featuring The Catalinas.  Saturday activities include rides, games, vendors, arts and crafts, a parade, and live entertainment.  For more information contact John Timmerman crafts 637-6866 or Debra Aston 275-2345.

**May 6 – Fulfill a Dream fundraiser for STHS Athletic Department, Strom Thurmond High School, 6:00 PM. All you can eat seafood catered by Park Lane Seafood, with auctions and raffles to raise monies for the athletic department.  Tickets are limited, so don’t delay.  Contact Mr. Doug Painter or any member of the Strom Thurmond Booster Club for tickets.  803-275-1768 ext. 505.

Our new senior center needs your help! To help pay for the completion of the new senior center building; we are asking that you buy a brick! These bricks will be used in a special walkway so that, in years to come, you will be able to bring your children and grandchildren to the "Walkway" to see your name and their names as permanent legacy of ECSCC. You will be able to create your own message. These specially engraved bricks will be used not only throughout the "Walkway", but at various other locations around the walkway. Everyone is invited to buy a brick, either for you or someone else, to commemorate special occasions, or to honor or remember a special loved one. **The Ridge Heritage Association is seeking donations for a historical marker to be placed at the old Johnston Schools location, Mims Park, Academy Street in Johnston.  Please send contributions to: Johnston School Marker, Ridge Heritage Association, PO Box 117, Johnston, SC 29832.
 
**Women in Unity are asking for volunteers (retired teachers, etc.) to help teach our children in our after school tutoring program.  Call 637-6295 or 480-2862 for more information.
