Edgefield County moves forward in “A Child Is Missing Alert”

Edgefielddaily.com
web posted May 3, 2005

A Child Is Missing, Inc. has confirmed that the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department is set up and ready to utilize the Missing service whenever the need arrives. Such an example of how the system would benifit the area would have been the two missing children found dead in a retention pond in Warrenton, Ga
when they walked off from their home.

The service, which The Edgefield County Sheriff’s Department has instituted, can send out up to 1,000 calls per minute to notify area residents of the missing child.

The system can also be used to inform residents of Alzheimer’s patients, or those with dementia, who have walked away from care givers.

The system differs from the Amber Alert system, which needs SLED approval and thus slowing down response time, to allowing local Law Enforcement agencies to issue a local alert without SLED oversight.

Sheriff Adell Dobey was unavailable for comment but his office did confirm they were going to be issuing a press release which would delve deeper into the service and how it would be utilized in Edgefield County later this week.

As always, Edgefield Daily.com will post the Sheriff’s Department press release within hours of it being released.
