Thieves Target Towed Car at Wrecker Yard

web posted January 3, 2014

COUNTY LINE The owner of Midland Paint and Body Shop called 911 Tuesday evening to report finding four people taking items out of a car that had been removed from an accident scene in Aiken where the owner had been arrested. The man told a responding deputy that when the four spotted him they began to yell profanity at him. When he yelled back that he was calling 911, the four fled the area, but not before he was able to obtain the tag number of the vehicle they were driving.

The wrecker owner stated he watched as the four removed tools, a camera, and other items from the inside of the vehicle. He had no idea of the value of the items taken, and the owner of the truck is still being incarcerated in Aiken County.

The four were described only as two makes and two females. An incident report did not provide any information of the make or model of the vehicle they fled the scene in.

The case has been turned over to investigators to follow up on the tag number provided by the wrecker driver.
