Stolen truck recovered Sunday morning

web posted January 26, 2010
COUNTY LINE – A Macedonia Road man called the Sheriff’s dispatch Sunday morning to report what he thought was an abandoned vehicle parked in the edge of a wood line in a vacant lot near his home. A deputy arrived and observed no one around the vehicle, which appeared to have no damage. It later turned out to be reported stolen from Richmond County.

The silver 1995 Chevrolet S-10 truck was traced to a Walden Road man in Augusta, Ga., and the deputy tried to make contact to try to find the reason the truck was parked in the vacant lot but was unsuccessful.

It was towed from the scene for safekeeping until the owner could be located.

Later, dispatchers were notified that the truck had been reported stolen through an “NCIC hit”, reports stated.

The owner was able to be located later in the day and was told where he could recover his vehicle. The case is currently under investigation by the Augusta-Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
