Computer Tracking Device Leads to Location of Suspect

web posted January 29, 2014

COUNTY LINE A Columbia County Sheriff's investigator contacted the Edgefield County Sheriff's Office to relay that they were tracking a stolen computer that was being used at a home on Casalina Drive, in Edgefield County. The tracking device not only allowed law enforcement to track the location, but also monitor what the user was doing, searching the internet to see if there were any warrants for his arrest.

According to an incident report, Sheriff's Deputies and Investigators went to the home to try to speak with occupant, but no one would come to the door. An unmarked unit continued to watch the home as additional information came in stating the computer was in use. An affidavit for a search warrant was granted and Investigators and Deputies returned.

After entering the home they located the occupants, Antonio Tyrell Dunbar, 23, and a female juvenile. According to information from a computer tech, the user was searching for warrants for "Antonio Dunbar". Officers confirmed Dunbar's identity and he was taken into custody for receiving stolen goods.

As a result of the search investigators recovered the Lenovo laptop computer that was being tracked as well as an HP laptop, five sets of keys, a cell phone, vacuum cleaner and a Swiss gear backpack. All of which had been reported stolen in Columbia County.

Dunbar was booked into custody at the Edgefield County Detention Center on a single charge of receiving stolen goods. Charges are pending from Columbia County for the theft.
