7 Students Injured in Bus Crash

web posted March 22, 2014

COUNTY LINE Seven students escaped with minor injuries following a southbound car on Highway 25 slamming into the side of the bus, also injuring the driver and the passenger of the car around 6:30 Friday morning. The Edgefield School District confirmed a total of 25 Merriwether Elementary students were on the bus at the time of the crash. The injured students and the occupants of the car were transported to MCG for treatment.

The bus driver was pulling out of Jacob McKie Road into the southbound lanes of Highway 25 when the collision took place. By 10:30 am Friday all of the students had been released from the hospital. The condition of the driver and passenger of the car were not available.

According to a source, the driver of the bus was cited as being at fault in the crash.

The remaining students were transferred to a second bus and continued their ride to school without incident.
