Fire Alarm Leads to Arrest of Wanted Man

web posted April 10, 2014

COUNTY LINE Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputies and the County Line Fire Department were sent to a home on Casalina Drive Tuesday with an alarm call of a possible fire. Once the fire department and a deputy arrived it was confirmed there was no fire, but a man working at the home ended up in the back of a patrol car heading to the county jail before the call was over.

The worker, 30-year-old Brett Howard Salter, of Grovetown, Ga. said that saw dust must have caused the false alarm of a fire. The fire department agreed and departed the scene.

The deputy ran Mr. Salter's information, which is routine for a deputy on a call, and was alerted to an outstanding warrant for his arrest. According to an incident report, Salter was wanted out of Charleston  for a Family Court bench warrant and he was taken into custody.

Charleston County Deputies arrived around noon Wednesday to transport him back to face the charge there.
