Man Breaks in Home, Attacks Sleeping Woman

web posted June 26, 2014

COUNTY LINE Edgefield County Sheriff's Deputies were called to a Fox Terrace home around 2 am Wednesday with a report that a man had broken into the home and was attacking the 26-year-old woman in her bed. The woman yelled for one of her children to call 911 while the attack underway, which scared the man causing him to run out of the house.

The 31-year-old Edgefield County man accused in the attack has a child in common with the victim, an incident report states. The woman said although they do have a child in common, he does not live in her home.

Deputies arrived between three and four minutes from the time the call was dispatched and found the woman to have multiple bruises to her neck and upper body, a swollen eye and a bloodied lip. She told deputies that when she awoke in her bed the man had his hands around her neck choking her and she began to fight back. He then began hitting her, according to her account.

Deputies also found a window on the back of the house that had been pried open, a jacket, a baseball hat and a broken golf club that is believed to have been used to pry open the window.

Deputies were unable to locate the man in the area. The woman refused treatment by EMS for her injuries.

Warrants were being sought for his arrest later Wednesday. Due to having a child in common, one of the charges will be criminal domestic violence. Other charges could also be filed for the break-in.
