Truck knocks out power and cable service to community, leaves scene

web posted July 27, 2007
COUNTY LINE – An errant tractor-trailer driver left several residents without power and cable television around 2:30 Thursday afternoon when the driver struck a cable company’s wire and supporting cable pulling down a power pole, power, and cable lines over a quarter mile stretch of Casalina Drive. The driver did not stop and was located a short time later in Trenton.

Edgefield County Deputies and the South Carolina Highway Patrol arrived on the scene to investigate the report. Upon arrival they found the downed power pole and transformer along with multiple wires strewn along the roadway. Traffic was closed on the road until the lines could be cleared.

Aiken Electric Co-op Power Company workers arrived and began the work of restoring power to the area. It was unknown at the time just how many homes were left without power for the three hours it took to restore electrical service to the affected customers.

Cable television crews were not expected to begin work until Friday.

The case is still under investigation and it is unknown at this time what, if any, charges will be pending against the truck driver.
