Cardinal Drive Home Targeted Twice in One Day

web posted October 18, 2012

COUNTY LINE – A Cardinal Drive man called the Sheriff's Office after waking up and discovering that someone had stolen the battery out of his SUV sometime overnight. A deputy responded and noted that the SUV was locked when the man went to bed and when he went out to leave. Later in the day the couple called back, this time reporting a burglary after the man left for about a three hour period that afternoon.

According to incident reports, the man stated he left the house secured around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. When he and his wife arrived around 6:30 pm they found a back door open and the house ransacked.

Several rooms, including the master bedroom, had drawers opened and the contents strewn about the rooms in the home. More of the same was found in the kitchen where the drawers and contents were thrown from their rightful place.

The couple stated that at the time of the report they did not think anything was missing, but would call if they discovered any property missing. There did not appear to be any forced entry from an examination of the doors and windows.

The landlord was contacted and informed the deputy he had recently fired the previous tenant for drug issues and then later evicted him and his roommate. However, the landlord stated he never changed the locks prior to renting the home to the current couple.

The scene was photographed and processed for evidence and remains under investigation.

Deputies were called back to the home on two occasions Wednesday evening including a suspicious male entering their yard and the dog chasing them off and then again later in the night when the husband walked the property and discovered spray paint cans and other items.
