A column by the Editor

I believe in coincidence

web posted February 19, 2007

COLUMN – I am a firm believer in coincidence. It happens all the time. Sometimes it happens repeatedly to the same person. I know it has happened to me. Every time that Fox Creek Charter High School is reported on by EdgefieldDaily.com or issues surrounding the school enters the fray in the Wandering Minds Section somebody drops by our house and destroys our mailbox and those of two of our neighbors.

The same held true again last week after discussions about Fox Creek took center stage in the Wandering Minds. On Saturday morning we awoke to discover, yet again, some brainless moron took time to destroy the mailboxes, the telephone pole base, and frame the three mailboxes were placed.

Now I would never suggest that anyone related to Fox Creek might be responsible just because of this repeated coincidence. Although some of those God-fearing church-going parents and School Board members might of had a “few too many” at the sponsored bar night Friday night and decided to take a swipe at me.

If that was the case I just hope they sobered up enough to make it to church on time Sunday to ask forgiveness for the crime, having a cash bar at a public school event, participating in the bar, and gambling. But I know none of these fine upstanding community leaders would stoop so low as to bash a few mailboxes.

I will rebuild our mailbox and those of my neighbors again. I am getting pretty good at it with all the experience I have gotten over the past two years. I will say I am getting a bit tired of having to do the chore. A small price to pay for bringing the people of Edgefield County the unvarnished truth.

Be assured that the person or persons responsible will be caught and charges will be filed, I will see to that. I will also reserve a very special place of prominence at the top of the Front Page for booking photos and a complete listing of all personal information made available about them when arrested, whoever they are.
