Edgefield Daily Makes Rare Candidate Endorsements

A Column by the Editor
web posted June 9, 2014

COLUMN As a general rule, Edgefield Daily does not endorse candidates unless the race is state-wide, congressional or national. However, with every rule there is an exception, and there are three key races that demand special attention.

Republican Primary
South Carolina US Senate
With so wide field of candidates trying to unseat Sen. Lindsey Graham, one stands out and deserves your support, Richard Cash. As businessman Cash knows the private sector with where jobs are created, not Washington DC. As a husband, father and a Christian, Cash holds family values close to his heart. As a conservative, he believes in fiscal responsibly, especially when it comes to how the federal government spends our tax dollars. Vote for Richard Cash in the Republican Primary for US Senate.

Democrat Primary
The following endorsements are local races, which Edgefield Daily has never offered endorsements. With so much at stake in these two races, it was deemed necessary to offer the following endorsements:

Probate Judge
To those intending on voting in the Democrat Primary, 24-year veteran Judge Bobby Peeler is clearly the only qualified candidate in the June 10 elections. Judge Peeler has been recognized over the years for his outstanding leadership by his fellow Probate Judges across the state. On a local level, he and his staff makes one of the most difficult times a family has to endure a compassionate, considerate and professional experience. Vote Judge Bobby Peeler for Probate Judge in the Democrat Primary.

County Council District 1
The County Council District 1 race has three candidates, making a run-off all but inevitable, and makes the endorsement two-fold. Edgefield Daily is endorsing Albert Talbert for County Council Dist. 1. Talbert has the backing of half of the voters in the district, as has been exhibited in past challenges for the seat. If those votes turn out again, it could be an outright win, unseating an incompetent incumbent once and for all. If not, it will place Talbert and Dorn in a head to head run-off race on June 24. Voters casting ballots for Mr. Quarles in the primary race should throw their support behind Talbert  in the run-off.

Many Republicans have posted comments in the Wandering Minds stating they intend to cross over and vote in the Democrat Primary and they encourage other Republicans across the county, and especially those is District 1, to join them. Such would have a great impact on the outcomes of the latter two races above.
