Come Discuss Today’s Important Issues and Share Your Views ALL ARE WELCOME www.robertbarber2006.com Spiced Devil's Food Cake web posted September 24, 2006 Ingredients: 1 cup butter, softened 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla extract 2 cups all-purpose flour 1/4 cup baking cocoa 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg 1/4 tsp. ground cloves 1 cup buttermilk Ingredients for Mocha Icing: 3-3/4 cups (1 lb.) confectioners sugar 1/4 cup baking cocoa 6 tbsp. strong coffee 6 tbsp. butter, melted 1 tsp. vanilla extract Whole almonds, optional In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each one. Add vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with buttermilk, to creamed mixture. Pour into two greased and floured, 9-inch cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 mins. or until cakes test done. Cool. Combine first five icing ingredients until smooth. Frost one cake layer and top with second layer. Frost entire cake. Garnish with ring of almonds around top of cake, if desired. Yields 12 slices. For
