County Council hears final report of Vision 20/20 task forces
web
posted February 6, 2008
EDGEFIELD – John Culbertson of the
Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce delivered the final report on the
Vision 20/20 Report to the Edgefield County Council Tuesday night. Mr.
Culbertson said that the group has identified three main objectives for
the future of Edgefield County, Economic Development, chaired by Bettis
Rainsford, Education, chaired by Dr. Mary Rice-Crenshaw, and Quality of
Life chaired by Sandy Backensto.
On the Economic Development strategies were to build a speculative
building in the county industrial park, improve commercial and retail
growth, improve marketing of Edgefield County, and to have a “focused
approach to economic development in Edgefield”.
Under the Education objectives were reducing drop out rates of high
school students, developing an education foundation to write grants to
be made available to the school district, expanding performing arts in
middle schools including drama and orchestra, developing a plan for
enhancement of district operational funding due to tax changes, and
determine future facility needs of the school district with anticipated
growth and shift in student attendance areas.
The Quality of Life task force was to secure a recreation consultant to
develop an efficient recreation system and plan for Edgefield County,
create a tourism board to develop a countywide tourism plan and to
pursue funding from grants for the implementation of the plan.
After the twenty-minute presentation the Edgefield County Council took
the report in as information.
A full copy of the report is available at the Edgefield County Chamber
of Commerce in Johnston.
