Edgefield County Council to hold first reading on $8.6 million 2007-2008 budget tonight

web posted April 3, 2007

COUNTY – The Edgefield County Council is preparing to hold the first reading of the Fiscal Year 2007- 2008 Budget 6:30 pm tonight at their regular monthly meeting at the County Council Chambers on Jeter Street. The budget totals $8,635,197 for the year and provides for an additional four deputies for Sheriff Adell Dobey. Also included in the budget for the Sheriff’s Office is the addition of four tasers, one for each of the shift sergeants.

The budget, which is in the process of being finalized, can still change before the third and final reading. There will be a Public Hearing on the budget on May 1, 2007 at 6:30pm in the County Council Chambers.

The budget represents a three and a half percent increase over last year’s budget resulting in $152,636 of additional current year property tax revenue.

The additional Sheriff’s deputies are contingent upon receiving a Public Safety Grant. Under this grant, a 10% local match is required in the first year at a cost of $16,335, inclusive of FICA payroll taxes and state retirement contributions. During the second year of the grant, the County will have to match 25% of the salaries for the four deputies and 50% during the third year. The fourth year, the County will have to take over full responsibility of the salaries of the four deputies.

A copy of the FY 2007-2008 Budget can be found here. The numbers contained in the budget is a draft and are subject to change. This copy is offered as information only.
