“Legal issues” delays Calliham purchase

web posted May 21, 2008
EDGEFIELD – The special called meeting of the County Council was held Tuesday night prior to the budget workshop and after calling the meeting to order Chairman Monroe Kneece said there was going to be an executive session to discuss a legal matter regarding the third reading of the ordinance to purchase the Calliham property.

After about ten minutes the council returned to pubic and stated that the third reading on the purchase was going to be postponed do to legal issues that needed to be corrected before the sale could move forward. When asked when the final reading would be held Chairman Kneece said there was no date in mind. “You know how these legal things are,” he said adding it could be a week, a month, or never.

A motion by Councilman Willie Bright to move forward on the Home Program trying to be started by Upper Savannah Council on Governments was rejected and the matter failed without a second from any other councilmen. The home program would have been used to refurbish old homes for lower income residents. The county would be required to supply 25% of the needed funds for every project approved.

With no other business the meeting was adjourned.
