Four finalists named for County Administrator’s job
web
posted October 1, 2009
COUNTY – The Edgefield County Council
released a list of finalists for the County Administrator’s job
Wednesday night after an executive session meeting. County Attorney
Michael Medlock emerged after the closed door meeting to say there were
four finalists rather than three, “but we’re going to release the names
anyway.” Of the four finalists, only one has local connections. None of
the candidates seem to come to the table without issues.
The list of the four finalists is: Edward L. Sealover of Fernandina
Beach Florida; Hal Mason of Garner North Carolina; John C. Brumbaugh of
Aiken, South Carolina; and Alton Brown of Cleveland, Georgia.
John C. Brumbaugh is the local candidate and is listed as a current
Board member at the private school Wardlaw Academy and the Golf
Coach, according to
their website. Searches conducted Wednesday evening do not show
Mr.
Brumbaugh to have any governmental administration experience. He
appears to work in the private sector in the staffing industry
according to online articles.
Edward L. Sealover, of Florida, shows at least six city or county
administration positions in the last ten years. It appears there could
be more, but dates of some articles available online were inconclusive
to possible time overlaps. This places at least six jobs in ten years
at an average term of a year and a half at each job.
Hal Mason, of Garner, North Carolina, was city administrator of
Hanahan, S.C., near Charleston from 2005 until February of this year.
For the seven
years before that he was assistant administrator of Shelby, N.C. Mason
has a Master of Urban Affairs degree from Virginia Polytech Institute
and State University and also served as director of the Shelby Economic
Development Commission from 1979 until 1998, according to the
IndependentMail.com.
Mason is also, according
to the same article, one of the finalist as
county administrator for Oconee County, a much larger and higher paying
position.
Alton Brown, of Cleveland, Georgia, was arrested by Cleveland police on
charges of DUI
with refusal to take a BAC test and open container at
1:30 a.m. Saturday, July 11, on Quillian Street in Cleveland. He was
suspended with pay during the ongoing investigation. There have been no
records to show he has been convicted of the charges to date.
Mr. Medlock said he would be setting up the interviews to have two
candidates interviewed on two consecutive days by the county council
later this month.
