Negotiations for County Administrator hire turned over to County
Attorney
web
posted November 26, 2009
EDGEFIELD – The Edgefield County Council
met in executive session Wednesday afternoon to discuss the
negotiations regarding their previous offer to Alton Brown as the new
Edgefield County Administrator. After the county council emerged from
the closed-door meeting they voted to turn the offer negotiations over
to County Attorney Michael Medlock.
The original
offer publicly voted on was a $70,000 a year salary with no
contract. However, the county council did leave open the door for a
raise following a six-month probationary period.
County Attorney Michael Medlock is currently vacationing in Florida and
will not be back at work until Monday to begin the negotiations with
Mr. Brown.
Merriwether County Councilwoman Genia Blackwell, the only member of the
council to hold professional human resource experience, said she felt
Mr. Brown was best suited for the position of the candidates
interviewed. “If Mr. Brown accepts, I think he will be an asset to our
county and will have a positive impact on our county employees and our
citizens’ confidence in county government.”
Mr. Medlock will have to bring any offer or counter offer back to the
county council in open meeting in order to accept, reject, or advise on
further negotiations. It is unknown if that can be accomplished prior
to the regular meeting of the county council on December 1.
