New Year Marks Clean Slate for Edgefield Daily

web posted January 1, 2014

COUNTY As readers log into Edgefield Daily today they will notice very little content on both the Headlines page and the Wandering Minds. This is on purpose as a formatting problem that occurred on the two sections several months ago increased the file size of the pages making it slow to load on dial-up internet users and some mobile devices. In order to correct the problem, we had to make a clean start for the sections.

Fear not, the content from December is still online in our Archives, but including any content from the previously formatted pages would just create the same problems again.

In the past, a month of content on the Headlines or the Wandering Minds would be around 350 KB in file size. However, due to the mysterious formatting error, both pages increased in size each month to well over 1MB.

Although we tried to address the issue several times, the only way to correct it was to ditch the pages and rebuild them from scratch.
