Parkdale Mills Announces Expansion in Edgefield County

web posted January 27, 2010
COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Commerce, Edgefield County and the Economic Development Partnership announced Tuesday that Parkdale Mills will expand its manufacturing plant in Edgefield County. The $3 million investment is expected to generate 16 new jobs.

“This expansion is an exciting event for our Edgefield facility and our associates there. Edgefield County continues to be a perfect fit for our company, providing an excellent business environment and a talented and dedicated workforce. We appreciate all the support we have received from state and local officials,” said Robert Nodine, plant manager at the Parkdale Mills’ Edgefield facility.

Parkdale Mills plans to add new equipment to its Edgefield textile facility to help increase capacity. The company expects to have the expansion completed by May 1.

“Parkdale Mills has been a producer and supplier of spun yarn for nearly a century, and during that time the company has been an important part of the state’s business community. Parkdale Mills’ decision to grow in South Carolina is another sign that our skilled workforce and business-friendly climate are working to attract new investment and help existing businesses grow. We congratulate Parkdale Mills and wish them continued success in South Carolina,” said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce.

Edgefield County Council Chairman Monroe Kneece said, “We welcome this good news, especially in tough economic times like these, it is good to see our local industries doing well. Parkdale Mills is a valued member of our community and we appreciate their confidence in our workforce and their investment of $3 million and 16 jobs. Edgefield County, the Town of Edgefield and the Economic Development Partnership have worked with the company to bring this expansion about and we are excited about this good news.”

“It is exciting to see our local industry expand and prosper. We were pleased to work with Parkdale Mills when they first came to Edgefield and it’s good to see them expand their operation here in Edgefield. These jobs are important to us and we are proud that of all the places they could have expanded, they chose Edgefield County. We wish them the best,” said Gary Stooksbury, Chairman of the Board of the Economic Development Partnership.

The company plans to begin hiring for the positions in February. Anyone interested in opportunities with the company can contact Defender Services Inc. at 704-864-0998.
