More firearms stolen across county

web posted January 29, 2008
COUNTY – More firearms were reported stolen over the weekend across the county bringing the total to five in the past week and a total of six recently. The most recent theft was reported on Friday when a Fox Creek Drive resident in Merriwether told deputies he discovered two guns missing from his garage.

The guns were described as a Savage single-shot .22 caliber bolt-action rifle that was black in color and has a wooden stock. The second was a Remington model 870 .20 gauge pump shotgun with a wooden stock and a black barrel. The serial number for the shotgun was listed as 0505990.

The theft was believed to have occurred sometime over the past two weeks.

The second reported case was the theft of a Walther P-22 drab olive green .22 caliber semiautomatic pistol with a black slide from the inside of the owner's personal vehicle. The man said he had work done on his truck at two local businesses on the same date and is unsure when it was taken.

Both cases have been turned over to investigators for follow up. The total value of the most recent gun thefts was listed as $640.
