Winter Storm Warning Issued for Edgefield County

web posted February 11, 2014

COUNTY The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Edgefield County starting Monday afternoon through Thursday morning. Accumulations of ice from a wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow could begin to fall during the mid-morning hours changing to freezing rain Tuesday evening, the warning states. Road conditions could become dangerous is a short period of time. Bridges and overpasses will be the first to freeze.

Accumulations of ice could be between .5 to 1.25 inches by late Tuesday night. Additional frozen precipitation is likely into Wednesday morning and could be a mix of sleet and snow.

Unlike snow, ice presents a larger danger since driving is dangerous and power outages are said to be likely and prolonged during the storm. Precipitation is expected to diminish sometime Wednesday with a high temperature below freezing all day.

Temperatures will dip into the mid 20's Wednesday night, making road conditions dangerous.

Edgefield Daily will continue updates on the winter weather as information becomes available. As with any such winter weather event, Edgefield Daily will place a page for weather reports, road reports and conditions, and any power outages. Another page for any closings will also be placed after at least one closing is reported.

The weather report page will be updated hourly as the conditions of roads and accumulations are received.
