Distinguished Young Women of Edgefield County Crowned Saturday Night

COUNTY – On February 9, 2013, two of our local teens were named 2014 Distinguished Young Women of North and South Edgefield County respectively in a competition with a theme of "Rock Stars". Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through an experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments.

The 2014 Distinguished Young Woman of South Edgefield County is Kalei Mariah Bowser. Kalei is a junior at Strom Thurmond High School. She is the daughter of Scott and Angela Bowser of North Augusta. Kalei's current top college interest are Anderson University and USC-Columbia Honors College. Kalei plans to pursue a career as a pediatric nurse practitioner. Kalei performed a clog dance routine to "Who I Am" by Jessica Andrews, choreographed by Mamie McAbee and Kalei Bowser. Kalei earned 5 separate awards to include: talent, interview, scholastic, self expression, and fitness in cash scholarships and the title of 2014 DYW of south Edgefield County with the opportunity to advance to the state level of competition to be held in July.

The 2014 Distinguished Young Woman of North Edgefield County is Lauren Williams. Lauren is a junior at Wardlaw Academy. She is the daughter of Brian & Donna Williams of Trenton. Lauren's current top college interest is University of South Carolina. She plans to pursue a career in pharmacy. Lauren performed a piano solo to a preclude in C by Johann Sebastian Bach.  Lauren earned 5 separate awards to include: talent, interview, scholastic, self expression, and spirit award in cash scholarships and the title of 2014 DYW of north Edgefield County with the opportunity to advance to the state level of competition to be held in July.
